Virginia > This well-known maternity hospital is located on the corner of the Rue des Bluets and the Avenue Jean Acard which connects des Bluets with the lively and trendy Rue Oberkampf. If your cab driver doesn't seem to know where you are going, tell him or her that the apartment is near the "clinique des Bluets."

Virginia > The view from near the maternity hospital looking roughly north towards the Boulevard de Ménilmontant gives a good idea of the neighborhood architechture.

Virginia > Colorfully decorated commerical trucks like this one are commonly seen in the city. It is fun to check out the different designs of this "graffiti as art " form, known as "des tags" in French.

Virginia > The Tabac at the corner of the Rue des Bluets and Rue Victor Gelez, Tabacs are located throughout the city and, besides offering cigarettes, they sell newspapers, magazines, cell phone cards, postage stamps and, often, a quick cup of coffee or other libation to be enjoyed standing up at the bar.

Virginia > View from the apartment side of the street looking down the slight incline to the Avenue de la République. One of the entrances to the Rue St. Maur subway stop is at the foot of the street.

Virginia > This is the intersection of the Rue des Bluets with Boulevard de Ménilmontant. It is common to see men sitting ouside the cafe on the corner drinking coffee, engaging in conversation and philosophically watching the world go by. It seems to be a neighborhood spot populated mostly by older men.

Virginia > On the other corner of the intersection is the Babel Cafe. We don't see much activity there during the day but it seems to be a lively night spot.
